Many of my hospitalized clients struggle with infections from antibiotic-resistant bacteria (sometimes called superbugs). Sadly, our use of the modern miracle that is antibiotics has resulted in too many of these little nasties, despite many efforts to exorcise them from hospitals and nursing homes.
A new antibiotic has now come along, called clovibactin (derived from the Greek word klouvi, meaning cage, a reference to how the drug works not caging bad bacteria). Here's to hoping that careful use means it will take a long time for the bacteria to stop responding to clovibactin.
